We are at the end of the year, time to take stock, reflect and plan for the future. It is undeniable that the entire tourism sector - globally - has suffered a severe blow. Data in hand, the Isnart photograph leaves no doubt. Budget 2020 Italian tourism lost 53 billion in revenues in 2020 compared to 2019 . This, due to the dramatic drop in demand from international tourists, especially during the summer months. And unfortunately it doesn't end there. Isnart expects a further loss of 7.9 billion in turnover in the first quarter of 2021. The hypotheses under consideration consider a scenario in which restrictions on national and international travel will continue until March, resulting in a 60% decrease in Italian travelers and an 85% decrease in international travellers. A real recovery for tourist activity is therefore expected for Easter 2021. But what is the government aid to support the travel sector? Of the 205 billion of the Recovery Fund, only 1.5%, or approximately 3 billion, will be allocated to Italian tourism and culture.
The reactions of Federturismo and Federalberghi Australia Phone Number Marina Lalli, president of Federturismo Confindustria , complains of a lack of planning on the part of the government: “ Having reached this point, regarding how to spend European funds, we hoped we would finally be able to see the little light at the end of the tunnel, but instead we were plunged into total despair. When the Executive showed the Pnrr, we realized that tourism just doesn't appear and therefore is definitely not in the government's priorities. What is disappointing is the scant 1.5% that has been allocated to us of the enormous resources made available." Federalberghi's reaction was also not long in coming. President Bernabò Bocca a few days ago, in an interview with Ansa, spoke of hotel structures which this year have had losses in turnover of 80%. The president also appeared rather critical of the maneuver: “There are no important interventions for tourism in this budget law, they have not been included in the refreshments and neither will they be included in the Recovery Fund on which we placed so much hope. We need a table where companies can say what measures are necessary. Things are decided that we don't need and we didn't ask for.
We saw it with the holiday bonus, with the refreshment decree with a ceiling of 150 thousand euros, all measures that can and have given little to our sector." Bernabò Bocca also asks that: “the 110% bonus must be extended to hospitality businesses, to restart the economy and employment in hotels because otherwise in March we will have hundreds of thousands of people on the streets”. The Government's response The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Dario Franceschini , responds to the controversy of the 3 billion considered insufficient: “ I also think that there are very few of them but Recovery is not made for vertical and ministerial sectors, it is made for transversal projects. For example, infrastructure is not included in the 3 billion, but it profoundly affects the world of tourism. And he goes on to argue that: “ It is important that there are precise and shared strategic choices. In other sectors the recovery will be slower but in ours it will be impetuous and fast. In Recovery I asked several things, but in particular about 4 directions. The first is the redevelopment of the accommodation facilities and the hotel offer, then the infrastructures, a valorisation of minor Italy (so to speak, if one of our minor beauties were in another country it would be an exceptional tourist attractor) and the promotion that must focus on hospitality and safety”.
